The Meaning of Creativity

In this post, I want to delve into the meaning of 'Creativity.'

Creativity isn't just about making art or music. It's about seeing the world differently and expressing those unique perspectives. It's the act of bringing something new into existence, whether it's a poem, a simple melody, a solution to a problem, or a new way of looking at life.

My own journey with creativity has been deeply personal. I've faced the fear of being judged for my limited skills playing the piano, singing, the fear of not being original enough, and the fear of not meeting my own high standards. But I've learned that creativity is less about the outcome and more about the process.

Albert Einstein once said, 'Creativity is intelligence having fun.' This reminds us that creativity should be joyful, playful, and liberating. It's not about perfection but about exploration and discovery.

In Buddhism, there is a teaching about 'Inner Peace.' It emphasizes that true creativity arises from a mind that is calm and free from distractions. When our mind is peaceful, we tap into a deeper well of inspiration and originality. This inner peace allows us to create from a place of clarity and authenticity.

As a creator, I've learned that creativity thrives on authenticity.  Poet Rumi said, 'Don't be satisfied with stories, how things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth.' This reminds us that our creative expression should be uniquely ours.

Creativity means embracing your unique voice and expressing it fearlessly. It means valuing your own perspective and sharing it with the world, despite the fears and doubts.

I’ve been living these ideas and, as a result, I’ve created something really special. I’m super excited to tell you about my new line of velvet-cardigans! I’ve got 14 different fabrics, each with its own unique pattern, all in stretch velvet. I’m calling this collection ‘Courage Cardigans.’ It’s all about putting these thoughts into action, embracing creativity, and having the courage to be myself. Each piece is a little nod to the journey we all take to find and express our true selves.

So, let's celebrate creativity in all its forms. Let's embrace the joy of creating and the courage to be ourselves.
